Current Leadership Opportunities

Membership

We encourage you to become a DC Minyan member for 5768 (2007-2008). Your membership dues are essential to DC Minyan's programming throughout the coming year. In addition to basic membership fees, we welcome greater contributions from those who are able to help support the programming of the DC Minyan. You can join by filling out our online membership form. If you have any questions, please email .

Annual (September 2007 - August 2008) membership dues are $260 per individual member or $460 per family. For those earning less than $35,000 per year, membership dues are $180 per member. Dues are waived for children (under 18) of DC Minyan members. This year we also have a new avenue for DC Minyan membership: ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP. Associate membership is $90 annually, and is exclusively available for out-of-town guests of DC Minyan members. (Memberships are one year beginning and ending in September. Membership can be pro-rated if you are joining between October and August. You can calculate your pro-rated membership by dividing the total membership fee by 12 and multiplying that by the number of months left from the present until September.) DC Minyan is committed to being an inclusive community. If you anticipate any difficulty in paying, we encourage you to contact one of the Minyan organizers directly, or email .

You can always pay your dues or donate to the Minyan online using Paypal:

Lead Services

Every facet of the DC Minyan is lay-led, from the opening of services through Adon Olam.  We therefore depend upon you all to come forward and share your voices and learning with the Minyan. The more voices that are heard from our Bimah (platform), the more rich and vibrant the Minyan will become. And by virtue of the time and thought invested in preparation, leading services tends to be an intensely rewarding experience.

Please email us if you would like to lead any of the following aspects of the service:

  • Saturday Morning & Holiday Prayer Services:
  • Read Torah/Haftarah:
  • Give a Dvar Torah:
  • Friday Night Services:

If you would like to learn how to do any of these things or simply brush up on your skills, we would be glad to pair you up with a tutor.  Please email explaining what you would like to learn, and what your current level of background is. Also, check out the cool learning tools on our website by clicking on the Learn Tab. There you can find guideline sheets for leading Friday night and Saturday morning services, and davening files to teach you the melodies!

Social Action

The DC Minyan is committed to taking the values we talk about in study and prayer and putting them into action. The Social Action Committee works to harness our community's skills and big hearts to tackle social justice and environmental problems locally and around the globe. Read below to find out how you can get involved and make a difference!

Holiday Social Action * House of Ruth * One Time Events

Holiday Social Action Programs
The SAC works to deepen our appreciation for Jewish and secular holidays by incorporating social action programming into our observance. For example, we held Tubishvat Seder dinner groups to explore the relationship between Judaism and the environment, and held a text study on workers rights over Labor Day weekend. In the near future we will be planning a fundraising for the poor around Purim, as well as a Passover program in April. If you are interesting helping to plan these events, please contact .

House of Ruth
House of Ruth serves women, children and families in need with food, housing, and support services. The SAC attends the first Sunday of each month. Contact if you are interested in this program.

One Time Events and Opportunities
The DC Minyan SAC will participate in DC Cares and the DCJCC’s one time events and opportunities. To find out how to get involved in opportunities with the JCC and DC Cares, contact .

If you have questions about the Social Action Committee and our programs, contact .
