VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Lead services or read Torah
Are you interested in leading services, reading Torah, or participating in our minyan in any other way? Whether you are new to DC Minyan, visiting for the summer, or have been attending for a while, please contact the Gabbai Committee at gabbai@dcminyan.org.
Parents & Kids
We are lucky to have such a thriving community of young families and we aspire to meet kids’ and parents’ needs with a support network and with programming like Tot Shabbat, holiday celebrations, and more. If you are interested in helping with family programming, or being part of a Parents Committee, or in finding out more about kids and parents programming, please email parents@dcminyan.org.
Help lead Tot Shabbat for kids 3 and under
The Parents & Kids Committee is looking to expand the pool of teachers for Tot Shabbat for our youngest members (3 and under), which takes place on Shabbat mornings at 10:15 am for 30-45 minutes. There is already a curriculum and a catalog of songs that can be used as a foundation for the class. Please contact parents@dcminyan.org.
Hospitality
Invite someone new to lunch or dinner. Do that on the spot at services or by coordinating through our Hospitality committee, hospitality@dcminyan.org. Also email hospitality@dcminyan.org if you would like to be matched up for a meal.
Kiddush Committee
The Kiddush Committee is looking to expand our volunteer base of people interested in helping set up, clean up, or shop for Shabbat morning kiddush. If you love cutting pineapple, arranging lox, stacking oreos, or quality time in the kitchen, please complete this form so the Kiddush team can contact you!
The Kiddush Committee is also looking for new members to coordinate with weekly kiddush volunteers to ensure setup and cleanup run smoothly. Please email kiddush@dcminyan.org for more information about joining the committee.
Life cycle resource guide
DC Minyan offers a number of helpful guides for planning life cycle events on our website. These guides help community members plan for various milestones and important parts of Jewish life, such as weddings, births, and death & mourning, including help finding local kosher caterers, mikvahs (ritual baths), and spaces for rent. We are looking for a volunteer to help us update these guides. If you have recently planned a milestone event in the DC area, or just have a few minutes to spare to check websites and proofread, this is a great way to help out fellow community members. Please email mitzvah@dcminyan.org.
Short term volunteer opportunities
We have heard from many members that you would like to hear about opportunities to help DC Minyan with short-term, discrete projects. We would be delighted to help you identify the right volunteer opportunity for you based on your interests and availability! Please email the Steering Committee at sc@dcminyan.org.
Community relations and special events
Email our Community Relations (info@dcminyan.org) or Special Events (specialevents@dcminyan.org) coordinators to volunteer to pitch in.
Participate in one of our programs
If you’d like to volunteer to participate in any of our ongoing programs, please email the contact person at the address provided on our Programs page.
Social action
Get involved with the broader DC community with DC Minyan-organized social action projects. To learn more or to participate in upcoming programs, see the description of our Social Action program on the Programs page or e-mail socialaction@dcminyan.org.
