All Day for 3 DaysCapital Camps & Retreat Center

DC Minyan is heading to camp! We invite you to share this Shavuot tradition with friends, family, and the DC Minyan community. The 2019 Shavuot Retreat will take place from Friday evening, June 7th through sundown Monday night, June 10th at Capital Camps & Retreat Center in Waynesboro, PA.

CHINUCH PROGRAMMING

This year we are thrilled to welcome Rabbi Will Friedman and Rabbi Sarah Mulhern as our scholars-in-residence. Rabbi Friedman is a doctoral candidate in Ancient Judaism at Harvard University, writing on Legal Reasoning in Early Rabbinic Law, and a David Hartman Center Graduate Fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute of North America. In 2016 he received rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Daniel Landes, former director and rosh yeshivah of Pardes. He has learned at and taught for a broad spectrum of Jewish learning institutions, including JTS, Hebrew College, and Pardes Institute. Rabbi Mulhern is the Manager of Rabbinic and Lay Education for Shalom Hatman Institute of North America. She was ordained by the Rabbinical School of Hebrew College and received private rabbinic ordination from Rabbi Daniel Landes. She was also a member of the first cohort of the David Hartman Center Fellowship, earned a Masters in Jewish Education from Hebrew College, and has worked in Jewish Education at the American Jewish World Service. Rabbis Friedman and Mulhern live in Riverdale with their daughter Liana.

Once again, we’ll be hosting a night of learning as part of the Shavuot retreat. If you would like to teach a Shiur as part of the Tikkun, please contact our Chinuch Coordinator Annie Dreazen at chinuch@dcminyan.org. Experienced tikkun-ers and newcomers welcome!

RETREAT PRICING

During the registration process, you will have the option to rank your preferred housing. To keep things as streamlined as possible, housing options are grouped into one of two tiers based on the similarities of the accommodations.

Registration and housing requests for DC Minyan Members will continue to be a priority, with housing assigned first to all DC Minyan Members, and then, as space allows, to associate members, non-members, and guests.

If you are registering with a partner, you will automatically be placed in the same room and can leave this question blank. Note that both parties must request each other on their respective registration forms in order to be considered together for the housing lottery.

The Shavuot Transportation Coordinator will be in touch with all those who need or who have offered rides. Thank you for opening up your cars to members of our community!

The above number should not include children who sleep in pack-and-plays. If you have a child who does not need a bed and will sleep in a pack-and-play or similar, you are responsible for bringing the portable bed.

In order to participate in any DC Minyan babysitting, each family must have a signed waiver on file. Please download and sign the waiver, and send a scan or picture to sc@dcminyan.org. If you have already submitted a waiver for other DC Minyan programming, you do not need to submit again.

Housing options are grouped into one of two tiers based on the similarities of the accommodations. Housing assignments will be made using a lottery system (random-number generator). Each registrant household will be assigned a number, and a random number generator will be used to determine the order in which housing is assigned. We will process through each household entry or until housing is full, whichever occurs first.

In order to maximize retreat participants, we cannot guarantee that families with 4 of more members will be split into two rooms unless the family has more than 4 members who sleep in a bed (as opposed to a portable crib); we will do our best to accommodate such requests if space allows.

You still have the opportunity to request a roommate preference.  When matching roommates, all requests must be reciprocal and the roommate with the higher lottery number will carry the rest of the roommates requested through the lottery.

Registration and housing requests for DC Minyan Members will continue to be a priority, with housing assigned first to all DC Minyan Members, and then, as space allows, to associate members, non-members, and guests.

We are exploring options for rooming children in second grade or older with other similarly-aged children of the same gender, to be housed separately from their families and under the supervision of a young adult counselor. This option is not guaranteed; we will explore rooming and supervision options based on registration feedback and available space. Are you interested in this option for your child(ren)?

As a lay-led community, DC Minyan is successful only because of the efforts of its members. We ask each adult participant to sign up for one (or more) of the opportunities below.

In what ways are you interested in helping with the retreat? (You can check items if they apply to anyone in your group. The retreat organizers will follow up and you can give them specific names.)

Thank you for volunteering! The Shavuot Volunteer Coordinator will be in touch with you about your role(s) on this year's Shavuot retreat.

On the next page you will be prompted to submit your retreat deposit, which is equal to the Lower Bet / Aleph housing cost for your party. If your party is selected in the lottery for Nesiya / Upper Bet, you will be asked to submit additional payment at that time.

The deposit confirms your spot in the lottery and is fully refundable if you are not accepted or you choose not to attend the retreat based on the lottery results.

If you have any questions or would like to pay differently, email sc@dcminyan.org to arrange an alternative payment plan.
